My Favorite Foundations for Acne Prone Skin

My Favorite Foundations for Acne Prone Skin

Those of us who struggle with acne know how hard it is to find a foundation that covers well, lasts all day, and doesn’t cause breakouts. I have tested multiple foundations throughout the years, trying to find one that works well on my skin and also covers hyper pigmentation and lasting inflammation from pimples.

When choosing a foundation for your acne prone skin, it is crucial to check the ingredients in the foundation and ensure that it will not contribute to breakouts. A handy tool I love to use is the comedogenic ingredient checker on http://www.cosdna.com/ .

Using COSDNA is pretty fool proof! Type in the name of your product and it’ll immediately tell you how irritating or comedogenic each ingredient is, on a scale of 1 – 5.

Without further ado, here are my top three foundations that I recommend for acne prone skin!

Bare Minerals Loose Powder Foundation SPF 15 (Matte)

Bare Minerals Loose Powder Foundation

This foundation is my absolute favorite. I have yet to find any other foundation that is as gentle on my skin as this one is. This foundation has absolutely NO comedogenic ingredients and is made from all natural minerals.

Bare Minerals claims that their foundation has such clean and safe ingredients, that you can even sleep in it! I wouldn’t recommend that though, I think they were just making a point. I have seriously sensitive skin and this one has NEVER caused breakouts, so I feel comfortable using it everyday.

This foundation is super lightweight, and undetectable when blended in well with a dense flat top kabuki brush. If you need extra coverage in some spots, use a concealer brush to buff some more powder on your pesky spots.

I recommend applying one thin layer all over your face, then going over your problem spots individually. Using this technique ensures that you don’t have cake face, and use product only where it is needed! Once I apply my bronzer, I spritz my face with some rosewater to really help it melt into my skin.

The coverage is light – medium, so it may not be ideal if you want a full coverage foundation.

Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream

Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream

This product is great for people who prefer liquid foundations to powder ones. Although I use Bare Minerals now because I like the ingredients better, I used to use this religiously a couple of years ago, and it gave me no problems or new breakouts. Although, some people report differently! So maybe do a patch test.

This BB cream looks super natural on the skin, and gives a high medium coverage, definitely more coverage than the Bare Minerals. You can also build it up, I prefer using a wet Beauty Blender for a flawless application.

I also noticed that this foundation lasts long, and does not get too oily throughout the day! I recommend for anyone who has oily skin and prefers a medium coverage. It’s also a drugstore foundation, so it is pretty affordable!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15

Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15

Tons of acne prone people LOVE this foundation. After using it, I can definitely see why! This foundation is full coverage, so it is great for those who want a more flawless complexion. This foundation has pretty great ingredients, including Amazonian Clay that does great at keeping you matte throughout the day!

I feel like this foundation can definitely look a little heavy if you do not apply it the right way. I prefer to use a wet Beauty Blender, and build up coverage only in the areas where I need it. This foundation is definitely more on the expensive side, but you can always ask for a sample at Sephora before buying it.

I recommend this foundation for oily skinned people who want a full coverage look.

I hope that this has helped any of you who have been looking for a new foundation!
